Adding and Subtracting Fractions

When adding or subtracting proper fractions, follow these steps:

1. Find the lowest common denominator -- or the LCM of the denominators.
2. Add the numerators
3. Simplify (reduce or change to a mixed number)

But what if you are adding mixed numbers?

1. Change your fractions into improper fractions
2. Follow from step 1 above.
